C2C Campus

7 Schools are aiming to cooperate and use one new school building together. The schoolchildren are aged 4 to 21 years and suffer from impaired hearing.

The proposed volume has a compact, strong and present appearance of 5 levels and fits with its outline to the modernistic urbanism of Van Eesteren in the surroundings.

The volume is elevated creating transparant pavilion-like entrances for the children organised by age and leaves way for an existing row of trees on the south side of the volume.

By elevating the volume it connects the schoolgardens on the south side to the adjacent park on the north side.

From the street the building is present by a modest and slight setback.

The straight outline of the volume creates formal spaces along the outer facade while the center of the building is softly shaped by fluid lines creating terraces and roofs to the inner outdoor space making informal spaces for meetings and informal lessons. These soft lines help the children with impaired hearing to orient themselves better by the sense of the eye. The soft corners enable the children to anticipate and look around the fluid corner just like people that hear what is around the corner but can’t yet see around the corner.
